It Takes Guts to Leave the Ruts

"I will guide you in the way of wisdom and lead you along straight paths. When you walk, your steps will not be hampered; when you run, you will not stumble." – Proverbs 4:11-12

I grew up out in the country, on a farm, at the end of a road. I learned early in life that it wasn't terribly exciting living at the end of a road. The only cars that ever came down the road were those of relatives, friends, or someone who was lost. Whenever a lost traveler realized that he was on a dead-end road, he would turn around in a cloud of agitated dust and retreat over the fresh path clearly marked in the dirt, and race back up the road as fast as he could to make up for lost time.
I also grew up in Mississippi River black mud that formed deep ruts when traveled over and over, until they would get so deep the truck would not go.  Only when we learned to drive in slightly different tracks along the same road could we continue to get to our destination.

As a young man I never allowed myself to be trapped by conditions that weren't leading me upward, outward, and onward. I decided to never let a dead end keep me from moving forward. Sitting in a parked car at the end of a road leads nowhere. The same is true in life.

What dead ends are you facing in your life today? Are you trapped in a job that has no future? Is your life bogged down because you have no hopes or dreams for the future? You’ve probably heard the saying, "God can’t steer a parked car." So get out and move. It takes guts to leave the ruts. It is not easy to move over slightly to see where a new path can lead us.

Analyze your obstacles. Who, or what, is blocking you? Are you your own greatest obstacle? Could a slight variance in the path allow you to continue to the destination?

Set new goals. Chart a new course. Make a mid-flight correction or a mid-life change. You are free to go wherever you want. Head back up the road into the mainstream of life! DO NOT BE AFRAID OF CHANGE!

A dead end is a one-way street. So turn around and head the other direction - it takes guts to leave the ruts!

Lord, I feel trapped, bogged down, like I'm in a rut. I don't want to blow the opportunities You have for me. I need direction, wisdom and guidance. Give me the mindset and motivation, and the determination and discipline to move from where I am to where You want me to be.

God is looking for people on the road to a great destination!
