Hello FUMC FAMILY,
So much is in the works about FUMC. I hope you will take a few minutes this week to catch your breath, allow God to bless you with the Spirit, and pray for me as I take a few days to get a serious sinus problem solved by surgery. Thursday morning around noon is the time and do cherish your prayers for a "big chicken" when it comes to hospitals as a patient. I also ask you to pray for Nancy as she takes the reins for a few days and also to support her with your presence on Sunday.
We also have so many good things about to unfold as we get "back to school", kick off "OPEN HOUSE" month, and start up CDO and other great ministries like Confirmation, Bible Studies, and small groups to help us and the guests that come our way have a place to grow in Spirit and Truth! Where are you involved?
Which brings us to the forms you are receiving in the mail about updating our computer records and the form you will receive on Sunday surveying the ministry gifts and overall evaluation of our ministry at FUMC. Please look these over, complete them to help us have accurate information on everyone; and complete the survey to help us begin the task of placing the right people in the right slots for 2009. Only with your help can we be the church God has called us to be in the days ahead. Help us help you by completing the forms.
I also say THANK YOU to all the Ushers and Greeters who came last Monday evening to share in the excitement of WELCOMING OUR GUESTS for the "Open House" in September. We all learned so much from the discussions and role playing that helped us see how to truly be a welcoming church. If you missed this training, please talk to the ushers and greeters who came to get onboard with our new approach to being a welcoming congregation. We could use anyone who can help us greet at the doors or share in the ministry of a smile and greeting anywhere in the church. Talk with those who attended to find out more or contact the office for more information.
GET READY FOR SEPTEMBER - OPEN HOUSE - MINISTRY FAIR and MORE!
How can you help make September a great month for FUMC? INVITE SOMEONE - FOLLOW UP THE INVITATION! - PACK-A-PEW during worship with all the folk you can find! YES, it is about people...prospective members, inactive members returning at your invitation, seeking out newcomers to Ennis, finding people who may be disgruntled with their current church home, or just being here yourself to make September a COMING HOME month at our church! SUCCESS DEPENDS ON YOU!
Also, during Sunday school on the 31st, all adults are asked to meet in the Sanctuary for Sunday school as we begin OPEN HOUSE month. That's 9:45am in the sanctuary. See you there on the 31st. The children and their parents will be meeting at the same time in the Memorial Hall to kick off a new year of Children's ministry. If you have children, bring them and meet the teachers and folk involved in this great new program! Youth will have regular Sunday school in their classes. Watch bulletins and newsletter for more details!
Enough serious...read below and laugh!
God bless and keep, Your Pastor - Rev Keith
HOW TO STOP CHURCH GOSSIP
Mildred, the church gossip, and self-appointed
monitor of the church's Morals, kept sticking her nose in to other
people's business. Several members did not approve of
her extra curricular activities, but feared her enough to maintain their
silence. She made a mistake, however, when she accused George, a new
member, of being an alcoholic after she saw his old pickup parked in
front of the town's only bar one afternoon. She emphatically told George
(and several others) that everyone seeing it there would know what he
was doing. George, a man of few words, stared at her for a moment and
just turned and walked away. He didn't explain, defend, or deny.... He
said nothing. Later that evening, George quietly parked his pickup in
front of Mildred's house...walked home...and left it
there all night!!!You gotta love George
